PDF Run Time Error
« on: June 12, 2012, 08:26:32 PM »
I am able to open all pdf files I have saved on in my documents.

However, when I click on a link to download a pdf document from an education online class I am taking I am getting the following error -

C++ Runtime Library program C:\Programfiles (x86)\Internet explorer\iexplore.exe
Application requested the runtime error to terminate in unusual way.  Please contact support team for info.

I am running Windows Vista 64.

Please let me know if you require any additonal information to assist, I appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Thanks,
mizzoufan

Take a look at this.

There is another solution, change readers. I used to use Adobe Acrobat reader just as many people do. But when Version X came out I started having more problems than not. I had to fight with the reader to be able to read documents. In searching for solutions, and from recommendations from friends, I was pointed in the direction of Foxit Reader. I went from almost always having problems with PDF files, especially the online ones, to having had 1 problem with a PDF file (and I believe that one was the fault of a poorly written page).

Hoov,

Thanks for your response.  I am using Adobe Acrobat reader Version X and not Adobe 9 or anything prior.   Maybe I should consider downloading a previous Adobe version?

I'm not really sure why I'm having this issue only when trying to read a link to a pdf document but no issues in being able to read a pdf document I receive as an attachment.

Do you know if Foxit Reader will read most pdf file documents and documents downloaded from a link for things such as coursework or does Foxit Reader software only work well with specific pdf file types?

Have a good day,
mizzoufan

Foxit works with all the PDF documents that I know of. I read from your other post that you are still having problems? Are these links public or do you have to sign in to get them?

The links are not public, I have to login to a website to access the links to download the pdf documents.

Thanks for your help.

Try downloading and installing the C++ 2010 redistributable package.

Then reboot the computer and try downloading a pdf file from the website again and let me know what happens.

I downloaded and ran the C++2010 redistributable package and rebooted and then logged into my school website and wasn't able to open a link for any of the pdf documents.

Would you happen to have any further guidance?

I really do appreciate your helping me.

Thank you,

mizzoufan

Are you getting the same error? Try this version of C++ (I had you do the 32 bit version the first time, my mistake).

Reboot the computer and try again. If you are still having the problem, I need you to go to the administration tools in Vista / Windows 7. They are in the Control Panel. Open the Admin tools, then open the event viewer. Over on the left hand side expand the window category and then click on  System. Then up at the top click on Action and then click on Save Events As, type in system as the file name,  make sure file type EVTX is selected, and then navigate so it will save the file to your desktop, then click save. Over on the left hand side and click on Application. Then up at the top click on Action and then click on Save Events As, type in application as the file name,  make sure file type EVTX is selected, and then navigate so it will save the file to your desktop, then click save. Zip them both up into a single zip file, post them back here in your next reply as attachments.

I wasn't able to open the pdf documents after rebooting and installing C++ for Windows Vista 64.

I tried to attach one file and I was told it is too large or greater than 15000mb  The total file size as a zipped folder is 4.12mb each file is 2 .48mb and 1.64mb.   I can't get even 1 of the 2 files to attach in two separate posts because it says the file is too large.

Any suggestions?

I appreciate your help.

Are you using the 32 bit or 64 bit version of IE? Whichever one you are using, try using the other one and see if you have the same problem.

I'm using Internet Explorer 64bit with Window Vista 64.  I'll try downloading the IE 32 and see what happens.  Were you able to view the logs I sent you?

Thanks,

Yep, and it looks like you have other problems not connected to this. But there were no errors related to PDF problems.

Good morning,

Thanks for letting me know.  Is there anything you can help me with on the other problems you observed in the logs I sent you?
