What happened when you tried it? Any error messages or did it just not start?

Strtup Repair starts a scan that only runs for about one second & then displays the following message.

" Strtup Repair could not detect a problem "

Well that is actually normal. This is going to sound stupid, but run it three times in a row, then reboot windows normally and try running windows update.

Try going to microsoftupdate.com . You should get the same result, but it might also go thru.

Can't connect it to the internet at the moment. I will have to try that later.

I will try to get an original Vista CD & boot from it to see if it can make some repairs.

There are two login accounts on the computer. One of the accounts will not allow Windows Explorer to open. Also tried to open some Microsoft Word files, but access was denied.

Can not find a CD for Vista.

The login for Danny has many problems.

Windows Explorer will not open.
When I right click on start, there is to menu.
Can not open files in Word.
Can not save a file that I create.
Can not open a directory to see what is in it.
Permission is denied for all of the above operations.

Is it time to bite the bullet & restore to factory setup, or do you think that it can be salvaged?

Do you think you can do a system restore to a point before you got infected? Or at least to a point before you removed the Virus? If not, can you back up all your personal data to a CD or DVD?

By the way, how old is your computer? It is possible that you will be able to contact Dell and get all the OEM Discs for your computer, that way you will have the Windows install DVD next time.

I don't know if a backup will work since many of the directories do not allow access under Danny's login. I can try to restore to a previous point & can also attempt to make a backup.

You can contact Dell, but chances are you are hosed.  Try doing a system restore. If that does not work, we can try the take ownership route with the Danny logon and see if we can do a manual backup.

Tried System Restore from several earlier dates. None of them would complete successfully.

How do the take ownership with the Danny logon?

Is the Danny Logon an Administrative logon or limited user?
