It is a Linksys 2.4 GHz 802.11b Wireless USB Network Adapter. WUSB11 ver. 2.6

hi hoov

i downloaded the drivers, and restarted the comp for good measure. still cant find the network when i plug in the adapter.

just a question. should i just restore the computer?

FYI I checked around the web and it turns out this usb adapter is not geared for windows 7 64 bit which is what i have i think.

There may be a work around for it. With the drivers installed, go to the device manager and there should be an unknown device. Double click on that and then click on the update driver. Let windows do a search for the proper driver. It should install the device now.

by the way this is the forum i eventually found that said this probably won't work. do i need to get a new usb adapter.

Sounds like it. The ones now are just a small USB dongle. Like this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124467

This one comes with a USB extension.

Hi Hoov.  I bought a usb network adapter and also a copy of norton internet security 2012. i will install everything and see if it all works.

runs well now. I just have to set my home file sharing network up again. Are there any final steps that I need to do to clean up from trying to fix this problem in the first place?
