error at end of cd burning

You mentioned burn away in your first post. I am not familiar with that. Does it place any entries into the windows shell at all? Something so you can right click on a file and burn it to a CD? Or something else having to do with burning a CD?

hi again its burnaware ive been using a portable version not sure about windows extens also ive treid igmburn that seems to work ok but nero and burnaware still give error at end of burn thanks baz

I have been working with my copy of Nero and a copy of burnaware trying to get it to see what you are seeing. It could be a problem in XP.

I would like you to run a test if you would. Burn a CD as you normally would. Then with Nero still open, stick in a commercially made CD of anykind. A Music CD would work great. See if it will start playing automatically. For this to work you will need to turn Autoplay back on.

To do that, Enable through Windows Explorer

    Open My Computer or Explorer
    Right-click the CD-ROM drive or other drive and click Properties.
    Click the AutoPlay tab. Within this section you will be able to specify all Windows AutoPlay features.


When you are done, disable it again. The instructions are the same as above, just you want to uncheck the autoplay features.


Let me know if it plays the disc.

burned a cd still get error message but replaced ejected burned cd with an audio cd and did auto play thanks baz

Well it is an indication problem, so we are back to a shell issue. Please download ShellExView. If you get a warning about this program, ignore it. It is a safe program to use. The download link is near the bottom of the page, you want to use the link labeled Download self-install executable for installing ShellExView with uninstall support

Once you have installed the program, run it. Then at the top, click on the company header to reorder the list. For each line that is not a Microsoft process, right click on it and select disable. you can use shift click and ctrl click to select multiple entries.

Once you have turned all of the non Microsoft entries, reboot the computer and try burning a CD again and see if the drive still disappears in windows.

Go ahead and reenable all of them. I am going to have to do some more reading on this subject.
