Trend Micro Antivirus plus anitspyware 2008

the installation process goes all the way until the part where it says its writing entries into the registry, then it rolls back and gives me an interruption message that says trend micro cant install because of a security threat.  i click next to begin a scan for the "threats" but it comes up clean.  it says i can continue installation and when i do i get the same error.  any ideas how to fix this? :D

Hi digitaL.tyraNt, and Welcome to SpywareHammer ;D

I've never installed that particular product but the problem could be that Trend sees one of your other anti-malware programs as a threat because they may both want to look in the same place at the same time, or lock the same file.

I suggest you physically disconnect from the internet (pull the cable), set all other anti-malware applications not to start at boot (including firewall) and install Trend.

Reboot, reset everything to start at boot, shutdown, reconnect your internet cable and finally boot again normally.

Are you installing this under an administrator account...?

As with all downloads...Make sure you are getting it at a clean site...Does your copy of Webroot also include anti-virus...If so you will not want to run two anti-viruses on your computer....

There was a conflict with Webroot and Trend in one version...The solution in the link below may help....

no i have plain old webroot, and yes this is an administrator account.  im installing off a disc.  hope that helps ^^

Turn Spy Sweeper off before installing Trend.

Open Spy Sweeper, click Options, Program tab, uncheck 'Load the program at Windows startup' and reboot.
Install Trend
Reboot
Start Spy Sweeper (from Start, All Programs, Webroot, Spy Sweeper)
Go back into Options, Program tab and check 'Load the program at Windows startup'

Let us know if you still have problems.

no, same problem :( i've consulted trend micro via chat 4 times already, each time unsuccessfully (obviously)

Are you running XP or Vista?
Go to Start, Run, type eventvwr and click OK.  Click System in the left pane and see if there are any red 'X's in the right pane.  If so, double click one or two from the time you were trying to install Trend and post the Source and the Event ID.

nope, clean as a whistle.  even tried installing again.  no x's

The only other option that springs to mind is to try installing in Safe Mode.
Other than that I'll have to do some research on this one.  Are you running XP?

If your on Vista.....Right click on the program and select 'run as administrator'

Did the guys at Trend say what they thought the problem is?

well, it says windows installer doesn't run in safe mode, and when i go to services.msc to manually start the windows installer service up, it says that it can't be started in safemode :O

When trying to download from your regular desktop--are you under an admin account or limited...?
