I restored my computer and now I'm stuck on what to do.
« on: January 25, 2009, 08:10:54 PM »
Hello,
I recently had problems with my computer freezing up.  I came here to spywarehammer and the problem was fixed.  I started having the same problems again so I decided to do a system restore.  I went to system restore and there was no restore point saved.  I remember saving a restore point after I had the problem fixed here last time but for some reason it wasn't showing up.  So, I ran my OS disc that came with my computer and did a full system restore.  I'm clueless as to what to do now.  I thought that it would be just like the system restore to original factory settings with old Dell with XP....but it's not.  I'm using Vista on my new computer.  The computer I have is a Dell 1525 laptop.  I have the OS disc, applications disc, drivers and utilities disc, and Roxio DE disc.  Can someone help me get my computer back to running normally again?  Thanks.  -Enigman :-\

Hey Vet,
Thanks for the response.  Wow!  I didn't know I could mess up so bad by doing what I did.  The instructions for re-installation seem easy enough to follow so I'm going to give it a shot.  If I can't do it then there is a computer tech right down the street I'm going to take it to.

Thanks again, Vet.  -Enigman

Hey Vet,
I ended up calling Dell.  We ran a test on the computer and it turns out I have a defective hard drive.  They're sending me a new one in the mail...for free!

The test was done by holding down the function key (Fn) as I turned on the computer.  I just held the Fn button down until it went to a "Diagnostics test."  About 5-10 minutes into it it started beeping and coded out 042.  The tech then told me the hard drive was defective and he was sending me a new one.

I'll keep this thread posted on how Dell and I reinstall the new hard drive with the OS and drivers/utilities.

Well, the install of the new hard drive was pretty uneventful.  I called Dell when I got the hard drive in the mail.  They told me how to install it and then told me to just turn the computer on and let it run through it's processes.  The hard drive was pre-loaded with everything.  It took about an hour for it run through all it's processes before it was complete.

LOL I have had the same problem with my PC. I Posted on here but no one replied so I found the answer on my own. Hard drive failed and the new replacement is almost here. I should have read the post before I posted my post in here "Post Your TrendMicro HiJackThis Log Here ..."
