Plagued with tracking cookie warnings. Can someone help?
« on: January 31, 2009, 05:03:58 PM »
Hello.  Recently my free AVG 8.0.233 has been popping up warnings of tracking cookies (the Resident Shield part of the AVG.)  My vault is almost full.  I ran Malwarebytes Antimalware and it came back clean.  I ran an AVG scan and it came back clean.

I use Mozilla Firefox, AVG, CCleaner, and MBAM.

I've noticed that the warnings tend to come when I first go online, use RealPlayer, use CCleaner, use MBAM, and do a disc cleanup.  Some of the warnings are labeled "potentially dangerous."

Can someone help me with this?

Hello again Enigman_08,

With Firefox open, click Tools-->Options...remove the check from the box Accept third-party cookies. In the same section, click the drop down menu and select "Keep until: I close Firefox. Click "OK" then close Firefox. Reboot to properly record the changes to the hard disk. Please post back your results. Thanks!

Hey Vet!

I did what you said in the last reply and all issues are clear now.  I tested everything.  No cookies warnings.  One last thing.  What should I do with all the vaulted cookies?  I've always wondered if deleting them heals them or exactly what it does.

Edit

In addition to the programs I listed at the beginning of this topic, I am running Spywareblaster.  I am not running Comodo because it says that it is a firewall and virus protection.  I'm already running AVG.  I shouldn't run two at the same time should I?

Actually, comodo is an excellent firewall and antivirus product. I use it for it's firewall/defense plus features but I disable the antivirus feature and use that only for an "extra" opinion so-to-speak. I like having the "scan with" option in the context menu for comodo as well. So, on occasion, I use comodo for a virus scan but I don't use it's active guard...I use Avira's Antivir for that.

As for the cookies in the vault, you can open the application that arrested them, navigate to the vault, and select "delete". Cookies aren't something that can be healed...as that relates to some corrupted file that you would use. For example, Notepad.exe becomes corrupted by some virus and your scanner quarantines it. Then you would want to use the "Heal" option so you can restore Notepad.exe for future use. Hope that answers your question.
