Barghest,

The most likely cause for your lost hard drive space is that Windows Complete PC Backup has created a backup copy of your entire system, especially if you are using Windows Vista Ultimate, Vista Business or Vista Enterprise. You'll probably want to check the settings for backups as described in the link provided above and make changes if you do not want your system to continue making complete backups. If you're not using Vista Ultimate, Vista Business or Vista Enterprise then I'm not quite sure what could have happened as those are the only versions of Vista that include the Complete PC Backup feature. An installation of Vista can take up about that much space, 14 GB, by itself so I would definitely suggest looking at the backup settings if this is a new system as the Complete Backup may have been enabled by default.
