PCBruiser. Thanks for the review. I've run the diagnostics extended test and the PC failed on nothing. I've been googling the problem and on doing this I've come through a few items about registry problems and discs. I'm far from expert and I know you are but wondered if I should try this or if because of the clean reinstall this would be illrelvant. Thanks again for your help.                       keV

Why don't you post what you want to try, and I'll review it with you.

PCBruiser

sorry if that last msg seemed a bit blunt its wasn't ment to come across that way, its just i was up late decorating a new house and there again early to start again, and i was on my phone and it not that easy to sentancde proply.
sorry bout that.

what i did come across was theses few sites as below.

when i typed "fix safe mode boot on vista 32bit" i ended up on this site http://www.zaperrors.com/.

as i wasn't sure about these cleaners i then typed in "registery cleaners" and come across this site,  http://www.registrycleanerstested.org/reviews.php?gclid=CMWcps68_ZkCFWVM5QodAx5_FQ

after reading this page i then installed "max registery cleaner" and it found 366 errors that it sais need fixing, theres no log or way i can post what they were, but there wasn't a feature to delate these unless i buy it so i can rerun the scan if you like and give you some of the things it found.

i also found this page after typing "safe mode freezes on crc drive"
 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistaannouncements/thread/8b95be75-dc9f-4de3-b8db-3e1811899ce6

the 6th post down says that his post is a solution, but as with the registery cleaners and this post i really dont fill confident in deleating or changing names of files i know nothing about.

at "zaperrors" its say's "regcure" is the full programme and i can deleate all errors but as i said, really im just scraping the barrell on very little knowledge and dont want to make things worse.

thank you for your help PCBruiser
i really appreciate it alot

PCBruiser

just a quick update mate,

ive run "max reg cleaner" and regcure" and both found over 600 so called problems, the "regcure" programme wasn't full, it onlt fixed files and to do the other 620 odd errors i have to buy it, which i really dont think is worth it.

ive also done another total clean reinstall of vista, but this time using just the orignal vista disc and not the slipstreamed SP1 disc,

this has made no differance and i still freeze on safe mode at the "crcdrive"

the only other thing i found on google is that most people who freeze on this drive can not boot in to normal mode, but as i reported befor i have no problems what so ever in normal mode.

so im all out of ideas and google pages to read, so any other ideas you have would be great

thanks alot

Unfortunately, I new lack ideas at this point.   I am having a lot of trouble figuring any problem that could cause something like this.  It really doesn't make sense at all.  Again, I'm researching it as I can, not finding anything helpful, but will post back if I do figure out some possibility of what the issue might be.

PCBruiser, no worries mate. Thanks for all your time and help. You've been fantastic, I'll do the same, if I do manage to stumble across a soloution I'll post back and let you know. Is it alright if I wander around a few of the other forums and see if they can chuck up anything we haven't already tried. Again thanks for every thing. keV

SOLVED.........

below im going to list what i done to rid myself of my safe mode freezing on the "crcdrive".

but before i do, can i just say that i strongly advise anyone to seek some expert advice before atempting to fix, wipe or poke and prod around your PC as deleating some files may hinder or even render your machine useless.

if you've read through this thread you'll see that when i first tried to update my system using the vista boot disc my update feature wasn't highlighted and was telling me i needed to upgrade to a more recent windows for it to work.

also by doing a bit of research i found out that some times its better to format the harddrive before doing a reinstall as your installing on to a clean HDD. (note above,DO NOT wipe anything without advice).

so basically i instlled all my updates through "windows updates" and one of these were IE8 so my system was as up to date as it could be and i then formated my D: drive (recovery,NOT OS).

and then when i went to format my C: drive to do a clean install i noticed that the update feature of my vista disc was highlighted.

i choose this and let it run through the motions and once finished and booted i was prompted to follow a link from windows to download a modem driver, which again i done, i then updated my system via windows updates and installed all 72 updates.

once finished i then tried to boot into safe mode and low and behold, it worked.

As i said before DO NOT attempt to wipe or change anything unless advised to and from my google research i found alot of people with this same problem but not a lot of answers, this may or may not work as there seems to be quite a few different variations on this bug.

but i hope this thread was at least some sort of help.
