oh ok sounds good. i can get someone to create the CD for me but the only problem is it not being Vista. so i would have to do it the other way which is not bad at all in price, i thought it would cost a lot more then that. so just to see if i understand this right, i'm plugging in the adapter in my computer to take all my information out - would that have instructions on how to do so when plugged in? and putting it onto another computer to then copy all my data, reinstall vista and then copy the information i took out back in?

First you have to remove the harddrive from the laptop, (do you know how to do that?) And then use the adapter to connect it to another computer, then copy everything across, and then reinstall windows and restore your data.

Basically to backup the data, you just go into windows explorer and copy everything from one drive to the other. If you have the space, copy everything over.

If this is what you want to do, then I can get some instructions together to make it easier. Just let me know if you know how to remove the harddrive, and if you have the space to copy everything, or just enough space to copy over the data files.

I don't know how to remove it or which one it would be inside the computer for that matter so I would need to know all that before I even open it up. I might even be able to have someone show me it as well, so before you write everything down I'm going to let you know later today what's up. Before I even go about this I'm going to see if I can get a computer with vista so I can create the DVD instead of taking the computer apart. And the space you're referring to would be on the other computer right?

About the space, yes if you do the backup on another computer instead of fixing the installation you have. I am going to check on the Vista requirement for creating the repair DVD.

I have found out that you can just run the startup repair. After you do the repair, there may be updates that need to be redone, but for now, just do the startup repair.

Ok great, I'm going to do that as soon as I get home. So now with the back up, that's done after I do the repair, right?

Yep. Once we can get your computer to boot to windows, do the backup before we do anything else.

i have inserted the disk and nothing! the screen in figure one doesn't show up. it states that you should put in the CD first and then start your computer, which i tried but the CD/DVD drive doesn't open so i put it on and did it, it still didn't load. i tried to shutdown with the disk already in there to see if i start up again if it will load but nothing. it shows the start up with recommended setting repair option, or normally, that's all.

i tried again i pressed f2 i see bios (version) which is what is mentioned in the startup repair step 1. but the CD doesn't load, why is that? would it take awhile to load maybe? do i have to hit either the recommended start up or the normal startup and then wait awhile for it to load? . . . . i pressed f8 and see enable boot logging, would that get the DVD running? just a little confused as to why its not loading/working.

In the BIOS there is an option for boot devices. Make sure that the DVD drive is listed first and enabled. When you make the change, make sure to save it. I can't give you exact instructions, because there are two many different versions if BIOS.

That will let you boot to the DVD if the disc is in the drive and rebooting the computer.

i'm in the f2 options and under the system list there is boot sequence, would that be the one? and in that list there are these options . . . .
1. Diskette Drive
2. Internal HDD
3. USB Storage Device
4. CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive
Onboard NIC << which is number 5. but not numbered i'm guessing it is disabled. it states to press space to enable or disable the device and enter when done modifying. i think when its not numbered its disabled and when it is its enabled or vice-versa. but i tried number one and number four, i opened the drive and closed the drive but it still doesn't load. am i in the right place? or even doing the right thing? would enable boot logging or any other option in f8 after pressed, load up the CD? just wondering why its not working.

edit. i got it, i did it wrong i forgot to save it, sorry.

edit again. figure one is done and complete just waiting for figure two to show up still hasn't its a blank screen, that's all. does it take awhile to load to the configure language and location options in vista setup screen ?

Did the startup repair go thru all the steps? Can you boot to safe mode?

Am I correct in assuming you have another computer? Does it have space to move files to?
