[In Progress] Chrome and Safari Browsers STOPPED working

"Can you turn off the Norton Firewall and see if your connectivity comes back?"
I need a little help Hoov, I tried to UnInstall NIS using Windows Add-Remove and Revo Uninstaller but Norton just does NOT want to go away so if you can provide me with directions, I will gladly follow them.
Thanks,
Bob

Vola, NIS WAS the culprit, after using Norton Removal Tool I am able to once again access Mozilla and Chrome.
I activated Windows Firewall since I need firewall protection, is that OK or will the (Chrome and Mozilla) problem reoccur and I should do something else?
Also, Windows Security Center advises that I do not have a Malware protection program, should I install AVG?
It looks like we are getting very close to FINALLY closing this case so I would like to thank you again for ALL your help Hoov.
Bob

Windows Firewall is a good place to start. It will keep you protected until you can get some other protection in place. AVG free is a good Antivirus program. But I would also check out firewalls. They do make routers with Stateful packet firewalls that have less impact on performance than the software firewalls, but there are also good free firewalls out there than will work. I would also keep Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware installed and scan at least weekly with it.  We have a list of free software that you may want to look over. http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?topic=2333.0

Now that we look like we are getting close (sorry it took so long) I would like you to run your computer for a day, make sure to reboot at least twice, and do all your normal stuff with the computer. What I am getting at is I want to give all the problems a chance to come back and show itself.

Also if you have any other questions or concerns, go ahead and ask. If all is well after you have run for a day, we can do a bit of cleanup, and if you are question free, we can call this done.

Good morning Hoov, I am amazed that NIS, a program that I paid for, has been causing conflicts with my browser and it is up to the individual user to figure out what is going on. How can Symantec sell a product without properly testing it and the release it with out fixing this problem?  Off my bandwagon and on to the current situation. Everything appears to be working well, I'll give it to the end of the week and try to shutdown and restart a half dozen times just to be sure.  I have a couple of (I believe) additional minor questions. When I start up my system, I get an Daemon Lite Error message (I had Daemon installed a couple of months ago but thought that I uninstaller it and can not locate Daemon on my system) that reads "Daemon Tools Lite- the program requires at least Windows2000 with SPTD or higher. The Kernel debugger must be deactivated".  I am running Vista so I don't understand the Windows2000 or higher and would like to eliminate this error message at startup if possible.  The other question is with the COMODO Firewall which allows me MUCH greater access (and choices) that I ever was allowed to have and since I just it installed it, it is in "the learning" phase and asking me for choices. I am not quite sure what to do so I try and use "logic" but I am not sure if I have the knowledge for this and was presented with a request for access by "Global Hook" that I REJECTED.  I also was presented with access by "AVGui.exe trying to access keyboard directly" and figured that AVG does NOT need my KB so I rejected it also. I also REJECT access request by McSACore.exe since I don't know what that is and couldn't find it on my system.  I know I can't ask you for help on every request (and I assume that there will be many) but is their a Rule of Thumb that I can use as to what to allow and what not to allow COMODO to access?
Thanks Hoov,
Bob

I would like to be able to give you general rules about Comodo, but I just don't know how it operates. If it were ZoneAlarm I could tell you. In general for any firewall, if you know what the program is and it wants to have rights on your computer, its OK to let it. If it wants to communicate with the internet, that is generally fine, unless there is no reason for it. It is when it accepts connections from the internet on its own, that you should stop and think. Very few programs need that kind of permission. IM clients do, VPN's do, and other remote connection programs do, but only if you use them.

About the Daemon tools problem look in the add remove programs control panel and see if SPTD is listed. If it is, uninstall it. If not look and see if there is a folder named that. If there is, see if there is an uninstaller in its folder.

By the way, Comodo has a Forum where there are Comodo users that answer questions. Not sure about how it works there, but I am sure that if you sign up and ask questions someone will help you.

Hi Hoov, everything has been working smoothly once you diagnosed that NIS was interfering with the Mozilla and Chrome browsers which have been operating just fine once I removed NIS. The only minor quirk is that when I step away from my system for awhile, it sometimes (not always but occasionally) loses the Internet connection so I disconnect and reconnect the Wireless adapter and i'm back in business.
I believe that you can close this case and would like to thank you so much for your help Hoov.
In all probability I will contact you again when W7 is released to obtain the SkywareHammer suggested list of software for W7 (that I believe you guys are assembling as you have for Vista and other OS). Thank you again for ALL your help and straightening out my system Hoov, Bob
