Explorer.exe memory usage
« on: December 12, 2009, 01:51:23 PM »
I'm having problems with explorer.exe using big chunks of memory (900,000K VM). It started after I did a restore to cure a virus problem I had. I posted my HJT log to the HJ forum.

Not sure if that was the right place.

So now I ask: could the problem be non-virus related? Anyhave have advice on solving the memory issue?

Thanks.

jfray,

It's probably malware related. Let the Malware Removal Experts help you and see if it helps to resolve the issue, first.

No one has responded to my issue in the HJT log forum. Got any clues about what I can do?

HI jfray,

It normally takes a few days before someone becomes free to pick up new logs, depending on the workload in the HJT forum.
I can't comment on your log (I can't read those things) but you could try the following (it's non-destructive and won't affect anything to do with your log):

G0 to Start, Run, type in iexplore -extoff and click OK.  (Note the space between 'iexplore' and '-extoff').

A misbehaving instance of IE can be caused by numerous things, malware and IE addons being but two.  Please wait for a reply to your log, but check if that command makes any difference to the memory usage when IE is running.

Mister:
  Thanks. I'll be patient.

One thing: my problem is with "explorer.exe," not the "iexplorer.exe" referenced in your post.

My apologies.  I had just been researching browser problems and misread your post.

If they don't find a problem with your log then pop back here and we can take a look.
