Narrator
« on: January 10, 2009, 01:23:38 AM »
I'll try to keep this short and pointful.

I have windows XP and all that mess comp specs:
       Machine name: PWNAMATRON9K
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.080814-1236)
           Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: System manufacturer
       System Model: System Product Name
               BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
          Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+,  MMX,  3DNow (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
             Memory: 2046MB RAM
Page File: 1508MB used, 2429MB available
        Windows Dir: C:\windows
    DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
     DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.5512 32bit Unicode

Anyway, I use ventrilo for gaming purposes and the TTS (text to speech) feature just abruptly stopped working.

This happened about a month ago I have been looking into it off and on figuring it was nothing.
Then I realized the narrator program won't run.

I'd go into start accessories accessability and click narrator and nothing happens.

SO I went to the internet. Looked at this forum:
http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t182869-microsoft-narrator.html

One guy said. "Do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and see if "ctfmon.exe" is running.
Post back results."

Well I did ctrl alt delete and I do have that process so what does that mean?

And how can i get this to work again?

Howdy,

Will it start when you hit the keyboard shortcut Windows logo key + u?  This opens the Utility manager and Narrator starts with that.

If not try to open Narrator, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Accessibility, and then click Narrator.  One of those should start it.  You may have accidentally disabled it.

Hope that helps.

I tried both of those and it still won't start.

When I press windows logo and U it comes up and all that. I select narrator and hit start. It then changes it from not running to running. Then like 5 seconds later it goes back to not running.

Also text to speech on my ventrilo program does not work either.

Are any of these related?
