COOD11B1 error
« on: March 14, 2010, 03:37:13 PM »
I was referred here by a friend that was helped out with an issue on his machine and I am hoping that I can get the same.  I bought a maxtor 1tb external drive about a month ago.  Since I loaded it up with music, backed up files from work and have many personal files that have transferred with me through the ages from computer to computer.  Shortly after putting these files on there I started getting COOD11B1 errors anytime itunes, winamp, wmp or any such program tried to play my music.  I researched this on the net and found several people claiming how to fix the issue.  So far nothing has worked.  I cleaned out some registry files, downloaded codec packs, scanned the drive for errors and etc.  It seems all the talk is with wmp11 being the problem but I am not convinced.  Now all of a sudden I am getting an I/O error anytime I try to access anything on the drive.  Please help this is driving me nuts and I find it hard to believe that a new hard drive went bad so fast.

It sounds like the drive failed.  Typically hard drives which fail do so quickly, or they last for quite a few years, and then fail.  Go to the Maxtor site and download their diagnostics.  Follow their instructions and run the diagnostics.  That will tell you if the drive is failing.  If so,they should replace it under warranty for you.  Just call and give them the error code and they should RMA it for you.

If the drive tests OK, then we need to look elsewhere for the source of the problem, but I do think the drive is shot.

Post back and let us know what happens.
