Hello.  Today my computer started acting up again.  I was reading email and checking out news headlines when all of a sudden the pages stop loading.  What happened is that I opened a new tab in Firefox, entered a link, and clicked enter.  I waited about 30 seconds for it to load before clicking the Stop button.  Then I clicked Reload.  It wouldn't reload.  I closed the browser and tried opening a new one.  I got a message that said "Firefox.exe is already running.  First close that program and then you can open a new window," or something like that.  So, I went to Task Manager in the Control Panel and tried to end the firefox.exe process.  The process wouldn't end.  I even tried to end the process under administrative permission.  It wouldn't end, though.  I'd click End Process but then look at the Task Manager and firefox.exe was still running.  I tried to end the firefox.exe process several times before deciding to reboot.  It took about 5 minutes to shut down and reboot.  I then opened my CCleaner and ran it.  I rebooted and opened Firefox again and tried to click through several pages.  Nothing.  It just sat there unable to load.  So, I closed the browser and tried to open another again.  I got the same message as before- "Firefox.exe is already running...."  So, I tried to end the process, was unsuccessful, and had to reboot again.  The reboot took about 3 minutes this time.  Then I opened the PC Tools Registry Mechanic and ran it.  It didn't help either.  The pages still wouldn't load.  I rebooted and then came here for help.  Any help you can give in this matter would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Try running Firefox's Safe Mode (accessed via the Start menu folder for Firefox - you will find a link there).  That will bypass all your add-ons extensions and themes.  If it works there, then either your Firefox profile or one of the add-ons, extensions or themes is corrupted.  That happens from time to time.  Restart Firefox in Safe Mode again, when you do that you can disable all of those items, and then close Firefox and reopen it in Normal mode.  Then, one-by-one add back each of those items until Firefox exhibits the freezing behavior.  That will tell you which one of those items is corrupted, and then uninstall it, and download a fresh copy from the Mozilla site.
Don't Read?  Can't learn!

I followed your instructions and I'm still having the same problems.  I clicked Start, right clicked the Firefox icon, selected Firefox Safe Mode, checked all the boxes and clicked Make Changes and Restart.  Then I typed in some different web addresses to make sure it was working and it froze on me again.  I closed the browser and tried to restart.  I got the same message- "Firefox is already running.  Please close the current window to open a new one," or something to that effect.  I didn't even go to Task Engine this time.  I just Restarted, waited 5 minutes for it to reboot and then came here.
