keyboard has no power recognized on start up....

I am looking for Hoov.....he helped me about a month ago.....probably the same problem again....when computer starts up the keyboard is not coming on so I cannot get into windows in any way....please help....I have tried taking the computer battery out for a few minutes, I also moved the CMOS pins from the original pin to the other one for a few seconds....now the computer screen asks me to either hit F1 or F2 to enter the setup screen which I cannot do because no keyboard recognized...I have tried my other keyboard as well....same thing happens....setup disc will not work either.....aauuuuhahhahahahahah....since the last problem with the USB ports I have been getting intermittent messages that windows did not recognize the device but it never told me which one it was or where it was located.....now a big problem again

I would appreciate ANYONE who can comment or has ideas on this problem.....I only mentioned Hoov because he helped me with this before....and I did get the keyboard back again...but this time it does not seem to have worked and the keyboard is not getting any power....it looks like the mouse has power but it is the keyboard which is required to enter either BIOS or windows!....don't know if this matters or not either....due to no access with keyboard...to shut the computer off I have to keep holding in the power button until the computer shuts off....(just a note)

Sorry I was not able to help you right away, I was without internet connection for almost three weeks. Are you using the USB ports on the expansion card that you installed? Or are you using the original USB ports?

thanks for getting back to me....I have tried starting the computer in every port that is now on my computer....the mouse is getting power from every port but not the keyboard....I have also tried my other keyboard as well and it is not seen either but both work fine on this computer that I am using now?...weird

Also, just to make sure, are these wired or are they bluetooth devices?

they are both wired usb Dell units that came with my computer

OK, there is one thing I would like you to try. Unplug the mouse and all other external devices, including any USB devices. Leave only the keyboard connected, and see if it will work that way. The only thing that should be connected to the computer other than the keyboard is the monitor.

Let me know if that works.

unfortunately that did nothing....here's a questiion....what if I took the new usb card out and tried that way.....maybe it is screwing things up?....yes/no....your ideas on that?

You can try it, but I am starting to think you have a power supply problem.  Give it a shot, and we can test the other thing out later.

I will try that out but how can it be a power supply problem when the mouse gets power from every port I have - even the new ones?....just curious

First, I am reaching with this one, so nothing is for certain.

USB ports have one line that is a 5 VDC signal. This is what powers the devices connected to it. A mouse has a lot less current draw than does a keyboard. That was why I wanted you to unhook everything from the USB ports and try just the keyboard. Less load on the 5 VDC part of the power supply.

While you are in the computer removing the card, try unhooking the power connections to all of the other devices except for the harddrive, and any power lead that goes to the motherboard.

Then try starting the computer up again.

I am really nervous about what you have asked me to do with power connections....I don't know my way around the inside of a computer at all with the exception of what you asked me to do before with the CMOS and putting in the new card....I also know how to replace the battery....I would not know what is power and even what the power would be connected to....I have not been able to test the removal of the usb card that I put in yet....been a very busy day and we have had quite a bit to drink today....BAD COMBINATION for working on a computer....I will see about the usb removal test first....I will have to study my pdf of my computer before I start unplugging anything inside....

okay...I've tried removing the new usb card and re-started the computer.....nothing changed....I have been looking at the user manual and I am very sure that I don't know what power connections you are talking about....there is only one device that I know of that is the cd/dvd drive but I am not sure what cable is the power and don't want to screw with things I am not sure about....
