Cross-platform worm targets Facebook users
« on: October 28, 2010, 10:01:29 am »
A new member of the Koobface family of malware has been making the headlines in the last 24 hours. The reason why the threat, which is sometimes being referred to as "Boonana", has been getting so much attention is that it doesn't just infect Windows, but targets Mac OS X and Linux computers too.

This incarnation of the Koobface worm appears to have been spread via Facebook in messages asking "is this you in this video". Clicking on the link takes you to an external website that displays an image of a woman (grabbed from the Hot Or Not website).

What blows my mind is...why would anyone click on a link such as this:
"is this you in this video"

You would be amazed at what I see some people on Facebook posting and doing. It's as if they have abandoned all common sense.

From  Eset:
Our interim analysis of a version of the malware we detect as Java/Boonana.A or Win32/Boonana.A (depending on the particular component of this multi-binary attack) differs in some characteristics from other reports we've seen.
