I wish I had good news for you, but I don't. I have reached down and run every trick I know how. I have asked some of the other handlers here, and none of us can figure out why these files will not delete. We have tried the big guns, and we even tried using Linux. Those files should be gone. The only thing I can think of is that you mentioned that you formatted the drive to change the parameters, so whatever you formatted the drive with has somehow left behind a fragment of the NTFS index from the previous install. The new install cannot deal with it because it is not in the new index. Running chkdsk should have resolved that.
The only thing I can think of that should get rid of the two files is to backup your data, run FDISK and delete all the partitions (Except the recovery partition if you have one) and then repartition the drive and then reinstall windows. But that seems a bit extreme to get rid of a couple of files. If you want to do that, I can guide you thru it if you like.
If you don't want to do that, I understand. But I also cannot think of anything else to try. I hate to give up, but I have to admit this one has kicked me to the curb. Sorry.
Let me know what you want to do.
