Restart the computer in safe mode, using the F8 key, and try deleting the files. If that doesn't work, try the steps below.

Reboot to windows then,

1.     Launch the "command prompt" from start \ all programs \ accessories.

2.     Use cd (change directory) to point to the folder (directory) containing the bad file. i.e type CD\ and press Enter.

3.     Optionally you can use dir (directory), with the wild card replacing the possible illegal characters "[1]" ie: dir search*, to verify the file is there.

4.     Then use del (delete) command ie: del filename.txt.

5.     Note: If you want to delete a file with spaces in its name you must wrap the name in "". For example: del "filename 1"

Can you move all the other files out of that folder, and then use the above instructions to delete the folder?

Please follow the instructions here, both the take ownership and the grant permission, on both files. Once you have done that, right click on the file and select delete.

Let me know what happens.

GRRR!

There are two programs you can try. The first is unlocker, and the second is eraser.

Both of them can be run the same way,  just right click on the file and select Unlocker or Eraser.

Try one, and if it does not work try the other.

If neither one of these methods work, do you have a CD burner and a broadband internet connection?

Can you drag these files to the desktop, don't copy and paste them, don't move them, just click on them and hold the button down and drag them to the desktop. Once they are there, try deleting them from the desktop.

If that does not work, I need to to run a chkdsk on your drive, and check both Automatically fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

Once that is done, see if the files are still in place, and if they are see if you can delete them now.

If that still doesn't work, do you have your windows install CD? We will need to create a disk using it.

What I was going to have you do may not work, because you are running windows 7. But I do have in mind using an Ubuntu installation on a Thumbdrive, if you have a 1GB thumbdrive available. Let me know.

First thing you need is the Universal USB installer.  Next you need to get the Ubuntu ISO file. I would go ahead and get the 32 bit version, but its up to you.

Once you have both those files (putting them both on the desktop will make things easier) run the Universal USB installer. Make sure your thumbdrive is in, and that has at least 750MB free. When you run the USB installer you will get a screen like the screenshot below. In step 1, select Ubuntu 10.10 desktop i386 , unless you have an AMD processor, then select the next one down. In Step 2 you need to select the Ubuntu ISO file. Then in step 3 select your thumbdrive, and if you want to format it first.

Now click the Create button, and follow the instructions.

Let me know when you get this far.

OK, stick the USB stick into a port. Now reboot your computer. You need to go into the setup part (BIOS) of the computer. Normally this  Somewhere in there is a boot order list. You need to make sure that USB is listed before the harddrive. I wish I could give you better instructions, but they change depending on the version of BIOS you have. Once you are in BIOS there are instructions either along the bottom or the bottom right corner telling you haw to maneuver and change settings.

You can also just try rebooting to the USB and see if it is already set that way.

You need to be there during the first part of the bootup, because it will ask you what you want to do, and you want to Run Ubuntu From This USB. It should already be selected and all you should have to do is hit enter.

Once you get Ubuntu started, getting around is very similar to windows. Go up along the taskbar on the top and then over to the left and click on Places, then click on Computer.

Now depending on how many drives you have, you may have multiple drives show up. Go to the one that matches the size of the drive where the two files are located. Now you can go thru the directory, just as you would in windows to the files. Then right click on them and select Move to Trash. once both are deleted click “Go” in the toolbar, then select Trash. Simply click the “Empty Trash”, your Trash folder will be empty. Now you can remove the USB drive, and then in the upper right corner, click the power button and select reboot.

Now windows will startup, and you can see if the files are gone.
