Try installing it this way.

First go to the control panel and then to the user control panel and turn off the UAC. Don't reboot yet though.

Now I need you to reboot windows cleanly. To do that please go to the run command and type in msconfig . Once that starts, select selective startup, and then uncheck the load startup items. Now click on the services tab, and down near the bottom of the window, check the box that says Hide all Microsoft Services now go up and uncheck all the services still listed, make sure you scroll down the list if need to unselect all the non Microsoft services. Now click apply, then click OK and reboot the computer.

Now your computer is running with UAC turned off, and with only windows running.  Try installing your Trend Micro Product now. Once it installs, or fails, turn UAC back on and before you reboot, run msconfig again and select Normal startup, then click apply then OK and reboot.

Let me know how it goes.

Run a scan with Housecall

Wait for the download to complete.

When the End User License Agreement, select I accept the terms of the license agreement after reading it.

Click Next.

Under Scan Now, click Settings.

Select Full System Scan, then click Scan Now.

Your computer will be scanned and it may take a while depending on the number of files you have.

After scanning, the scan results will appear. Copy and paste the results here.

Just to make sure, I had you run the diagnostic toolkit to remove the older version, you were able to do that correct?

Do you have a Windows installation disc? Also can you tell me, have you ever had any other AntiVirus installed on this computer?

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine.  Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links.  Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool.  No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Please copy and paste both logs into your next response. You may need more than one response.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note:  You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.  After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection.  Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

No, no installation disc.  It had 60 day trial of Norton Internet Security, but removed it when I put Trend Micro 2010 on here.

Please run Norton Removal tool and get rid of it. The program you pick doesn't matter because the tool remains the same, just the instructions to save your license. Then try installing Trend Micro again. Let me know what happens.

Ok, I ran the Norton Removal tool.   I tried installing Trend Micro again and had same problem.  I typed in google about runtime error when installing Trend Micro Titanium and had to run something, can't remember the name now and I did and it said to remove the Malware program I had on here from before, also to go to run, type temp and delete things in there,  did that and went again and tried to install the Trend Micro and low and behold, it now installed and is running on my computer.   :p    Doing a happy dance.          I did learn lots from you and thanks so much for all the help.   I do have a question though.  All those other things I installed and did copy of reports and all that,  can I now delete them from my computer?

Thanks

Been meaning to ask,  are you in Michigan too?
