Itunes / Apps on IOS devices...WindowsXP
« on: July 16, 2013, 09:45:31 PM »
So I donít know if this the right board to be posting on, but Iíll try it. My apps that I use on my Ipod Touch/Ipad are also stored on my computer and they take about 11GB of space. Can I delete them, and still download them in the future from the Cloud? Also, whenever I download an app on my Ipad, my Itunes App on the computer downloads the same app onto the computer. Does this have to happen? How can I stop them from downloading on my computer? I donít need them there and they are taking up space.

Thanks for your help!
Windows XP Professional
Itunes 11.0.0.63

Yes, actually not from the cloud, but from the app store.  Minor difference, and practically the same.  Apps are not backed up with the cloud, only data.

Search for new apps and download them using your iPad, not iTunes.  If you grab apps that way, they are not downloaded to your system until you connect your iPad and synchronize with iTunes.  If you backup your data with the cloud, and do not use iTunes, your iPad never uses iTunes for synchronizing.  Your apps are effectively backed up with the app store, you can download them anytime you want, and your data with the cloud.  You don't really need iTunes.  Furthermore, there are some third party applications for your computer that permit uploading data to your iPad bypassing iTunes completely.

To keep Itunes from downloading an App purchased on your IPad go into Itunes on the computer, then go to Edit then to Preferences and then to Store. In the top section uncheck the Apps box then click OK. That should stop ITunes from downloading the Apps. Not sure what will happen when you connect the IPad to the computer though.
