Hi Hoov,
Before I begin, a question:  The first steps of the 'secrets' are the same as I originally followed, so there is still that partition out there.  Should I delete it? or can my new XP disk fill in the missing parts in this partition?

Thanks,
Vickster3659

Just leave it there. The Windows install will warn you that there is an OS there, just overwrite it.

Doing good until it asked me for the Product ID, which I had to go get from the label attached to my XP system.....says it's invalid, won't let me go by it.....

Are you sure you entered it in exactly? Didn't get a B and an 8 confused, or any of the other close characters?

yes, tried several times.  Question:  I had more than one XP machines over the years......is this number something that is stored on the disc?  Could I have kept an XP disc from one of my other systems?

Nope, the discs do not matter. But is the version of XP (Home, Pro, or Media Center) the same as the key?

During the Setup, try deleting the partition and then recreating it, then finish the install.

Was your XP disc, a Windows install disc with the hologram or was it an OEM disc?

The disc has no hologram, the envelope that the disc is packaged in directs you to the computer to get the Product Id. The Product Id has the hologram label.

Hi Hoov,
Any thoughts on the Product ID issue?
Thanks,
